The first thought that comes to mind thinking back to the 2006 vintage are the notorious power cuts that were experienced that year. Fearing the idea of running fermentations without proper cooling a generator was installed just in time. 2006 saw the much needed rains during vintage late February which enabled the team to leave the grapes hanging on the vines longer with the vineyard getting a renewed boost and leaves staying greener for longer before discolouration to yellow. The Cabernet Sauvignon turned out to be more classical in style expressing more depth and structure rather than the richness the wine showed the previous two vintages.

Tasting notes:

The nose still displays classical cassis and blackcurrant flavours with an amazing graphite profile. The wine has still got great depth and the structural balance rests on the austerity of the tannins. The palate has less richness compared to the 2004 and 2005 vintage but makes up for it with its seamless elegance. Almost 20 years later it is  evident that the structure and firm acidity of the wine is the bedrock on which the longevity of this wine is based.
